DAVID SAFI

HE founded the groundbreaking website formgrids.co.za, and David Safi has given his readers a certain edge with his popular website’s colour-coded collateral form tables.

David likes to keep things straight and simple, in the long run one of the best approaches to assess race programmes.

He says: I repeat the basics for every race. First, I first look at what type of race it is. Then I consider the conditions of entry, followed by the weights. Then then I check the weights, the draw, the jockey and trainer, etc. When a runner in any contest is distance suited, a take a closer look at its form and weigh it up against the performance records of the others in the race before I make my final selections. Naturally I use formgrids for a quick assessment of collateral form lines, an essential tool when the race records of different horses are compared.”
